Hayfield Water Supply
Public Health Report 1939
This Chapel-en-le-Frith Public Health report suggests that a 6 inch main was laid from Kinder Bank Supply Tank to *Jumble Balance Tank built at Morland Road with a 3 inch main to existing supply.
This is incorrect and only makes sense if the sentence is split as follows:
HAYFIELD WATER SUPPLY (improvements)
1. 6 inch main was laid from Kinder Bank Supply Tank to Jumble.
2. Balance Tank built at Morland Road with a 3 inch main to existing supply.

* Jumble is an area of Hayfield at the bottom of Kinder Road near the junction of Spring Vale Road.

Nora Livesley said in a letter to the newspaper thought to be in 1984:
'Some years later, we moved to Birch Vale. When the Harrymoor water was piped to Mellor, via Jordan Wall Nook, we saw the men, with their instruments, in our field, but eventually they decided that a tank, or booster, on the other side of Morland Road, would give the necessary pressure. We were very pleased, for then we were able to transfer to Harrymoor water, which was very much
better. '

Nora lived at Morland Cottage and appears to be referring to a tank installed on the opposite side of the road to one of her fields. Was a 3" main laid from the Hayfield (Harrymoor) main in New Mills road to supply a 'Balance' Tank?
