George Sorocold, Derby Water Engineer
George Sorocold was a Water Engineer who installed the first piped water supply to Derby using a water wheel powered pump. It was extracted straight out of the River Derwent at Derby and was untreated.

My thanks and gratitude go to Keith Reedman, Local Historian of Long Eaton who supplied the information and to the Derbyshire Archaeological and Natural History Society from whose journals much of this information was copied. The first was from F Williamson, F.R.Hist.S. and the second by Joan D'Arcy.
