Long Eaton and Sawley Sewage Disposal
Sawley Sewage Works c.1913
Shardlow RDC
Constructed c.1905?
Abandoned c.1935?

In 1905 the Local Board declined funding because Shardlow RDC had designed a scheme for New Sawley without providing for Old Sawley. New Sawley, was an area of new housing and streets were being build but not connected to the sewage system necessitation the manholes at the ends of the streets to act a tempory storage sometimes requiring daily pumping out. In 1906 the Local Government Board approved a revised scheme but work was delayed because of excessive surface water.

In 1920 housing development in New Sawley ceased pending the incorporation of New Sawley with Long Eaton which took place in October, 1921

The 1925 Medical Officer of Health Repot for Long Eaton UDC reported that the New Sawley Sewage Works are being maintained as originally designed except that the sewage is being pumped to the works by an electric motor with gas engine as standby.
